A friend of my wife and I came to visit Prescott a few months ago with their children. As they were leaving to drive back to Los Angeles, their two year old son had managed to get his hands on a 2002 penny that had been within reach.

After they loaded their son into the car seat they noticed that he was placing the coin into his mouth and swallowed it, smiling and giggling all along.

They drove to Yavapai Regional Medical Center on that late Sunday afternoon around 5:30pm, promptly took him to the emergency room and the staff performed an X-ray on the boy.

Sure enough, there was a perfectly formed circle promently displayed in the center of the otherwise fuzzy photo of his body from neck to waist.

The doctor smiled and informed the parents that the penny would eventually leave the body and could be extracted from a diaper in the near future.

Obviously you can imagine the relief and happiness that they felt in knowing their son would be fine.

ALTCS is Arizona’s version of the Medicaid Program for Long Term or Extended Care.

The Long Term Care Division’s clients include elderly, physically disabled, and choronically ill individuals eligible for service under the Arizona Health Care Cost Containment System (AHCCCS).

Services for clients include nursing facility care or assisted home and community based care.

Medical services include physician services, pharmacy, hospitalization, and durable medical equipment as needed.
