Fishing at Watson Lake in Prescott Arizona

April 17th, 2006

One of the greatest things about buying a home in the Prescott Arizona real estate market for people who enjoy fishing is that you are literally ten minutes from 3 or 4 great places fishing spots in town.

I promised my son that when his grandpa came to visit us up here in Prescott, the three of us would go fishing. This photo shows Josh and grandpa standing at the edge of the main pier trolling for the next big catch.

My son and I started fishing in Prescott last year when he turned five. We quickly discovered that of all the lakes to go fishing, our favorite “fishing hole” is Watson Lake.

The beauty of owning a home in Prescott is that you can grab your rod and reel and a tacklebox, walk out your front door, get in your vehicle and cast your line into one of the nearby lakes in about 15 minutes.

If you’re an avid fisherman and have the proper gear there’s a really good chance you can come to shore with a couple of really nice eight pound bass. I’ve seen it with my own eyes, and quite frankly, it was on more than one occasion.

Since we’re not expert fishermen and we don’t own a boat and trolling motor, our access to some of the more exclusive “fishing spots” sprinkled throughout the lake is limited.

We did have great luck all last summer catching and releasing little largemouth bass almost every time we went fishing.

Standing on the pier (visible in both photos) gives a person access to smaller fish, often anywhere from a few ounces to a few pounds.

All in all, although most of the fish my son pulled in were under a pound, it only made our father/son bonding time more exciting as my son would reel in a fish.

Watson Lake

The city of Prescott has been really upgrading the Watson Lake situation and I can’t state clearly enough about how wonderful of a time you will have there if you decide to visit Prescott.

Whether you spend a day or even a few hours at Watson lake while looking for a home in Prescott, make sure that you set aside some time to experience it

Watson Lake is four miles from downtown Prescott, just north on Highway 89.

Activities include boating, fishing, swimming, wind surfing, hiking, horseshoes and camping.

Since it’s only a few minutes from town, you can get to any of the local markets to purchase any necessities you need if you are going to spend the night camping.

As far as features go, there’s two boat ramps, drinking water, modern restrooms, areas for picnicing and showers.
